Baked on the Bright Side

Rudi’s Gluten-Free road show heads to Costco in Portland and Seattle!

January 18, 2011

Just back from two fabulous weekends in Porland and Seattle.  Yes, it was a little rainy but that didn’t slow us down from sharing our gluten-free bread!

We spent the weekend of January 7-9 in the Portland area.  A representative from Rudi’s was at each of the Costco’s in Hillsboro, Clackamas, Tigard, Eugene, and East Vancouver.  It was three busy days of grilling cheese sandwiches and making friends.  Our goal was to get as many samples as we could into the hands of Costco patrons.  Even our CEO, Jane Miller, made the trip and was talking to customers and enjoying grilled cheese with the masses.  We received this kind post on our Facebook page from one of our Portland area fans:

Lisa Christopher: I was in my local, Washington State Costco today and stumbled upon Rudi’s CEO Jane Miller. I had the pleasure of telling her, face to face, what a wonderful difference Rudi’s GF bread has made in my life. It’s delicious! I also was impressed that a CEO would take the time to press the flesh with folks in a grocery stor.e. I like that kind of hands-on management!

After Portland we were back at the bakery and offices in Boulder for a few days, then on the road again heading for Seattle, January 14-16.  Seattle was wet!  It rained for three days straight, but this just meant more shoppers at Costco!  We were thrilled to be in the Evergreen state and ready to spread a little Rudi’s sunshine. Our stop included Woodlinville, Issaquah, Kirkland, Covington, and Federal Way Costco stores.

Costco’s friendly demonstration team manned the griddles and powered the toasters.  It was a sample frenzy!  If the shoppers hadn’t tasted Rudi’s GF bread before, the grilled cheese on Rudi’s Gluten-Free Multigrain bread made them fans after.  Then there were our loyal Rudi’s customers who came by for a chat and to get in on the sampling.  It was great catching up with you all.  We hope you all were able to take advantage of the sweet special we were offering through Costco (two loaves for $6.89!).

We hear the calling to get Rudi’s Gluten-Free breads into Costco. Our sales team is working hard to make this happen.  Stay tuned for the next stop on Rudi’s Gluten-Free Costco road show!

I had the opportunity to try Rudi’s wheat free bread at the Hillsboro Costco location and was so impressed! I’ve been wheat free for many years now and struggling due to the fact that there have been no products out there that aren’t over dense, tasteless or lacking the resemblance of cardboard. But Rudi’s absolutely let me know that times have changed and for the first time I’ve been able to enjoy a wheat free bread that does not impair my health. Due to the fact I live in Cornelius and the nearest Rudi’s products appear to be in Portland and McMinville, I’m begging the Hillsboro location to pick up this product permanently. I bought six loaves and for the first time in years I feel so good and satisfied after eating that I’m not cheating on my diet. I don’t want to run out of this bread and I want to try the other products.

I’m hoping the Hillsboro Costco will pick up your products but in the mean time is there anywhere closer or an online option (not sure that would work for food) for ordering Rudi’s products?

PLEASE find a way to sell your bread in Costco. My son who is 7 has been able to eat a turkey/ham sandwich at school with his friends not bugging him about a weird lunch ever since we found your bread!!! AND he loves it! But its really had to afford $5 bread loaves every week. Please help us out and sell your bread at COSTCO!!
thanks for being a great bakery!

I bought Rudi’s multi-grain and raisen bread at Clackamas Costco. If I had realized it was a road show I would have bought 5 times as much and filled my freezer! It was the best I’ve ever purchased. I hope it will become available in the future in Wilsonville and Tigard too. I emailed Costco requesting it also. Please make it happen!

We were visiting Seattle from Yakima for a SOccer tournament and stopped in Issaquah COSTCO. Your bread is WONDERFUL it tastes just like “real” bread- we were so excited but since we were staying in a motel we could only buy 2 loaves. (no freezer) PLEASE sell your bread at ALL COSTCO’s – there is only one gluten free bakery in Yakima and it is twice the money and not nearly as good.

I do not see any bread Rudi bread at Costco in Shoreline,WA near Seattle. I do agree with Sandee’s comment about price is not good. OUCH. I had to use coupon and make sure I get a enough coupon to buy more breads from QFC in 145th. They do put freezer. :/

I stopped in at our local Covington, WA Costco in January and found Rudi’s bread being sampled. It was the best gluten-free bread I had ever tasted! I met Jane Miller and was impressed that she was in the store to meet customers. She was delightful! I hope that Costco will supply Rudi’s. I’m currently looking to find where it’s being sold locally elsewhere, but it would be so much more convenient to have it sold at Costco. Good luck! I hope they say, “Yes!”

We missed the Portland roadshows, but my daughter found Rudi’s bread in the freezer at the Clackamas Costco. It is absolutly fabulous. My children and I have been gluten free since 1998 and have eaten alot of cardboard gluten free bread. WE had basically given up having a sandwich. Please make a deal with Costco.

Found your bread on Sunday in Eugene at Costco – THANK YOU! It tastes like real bread. For the first time in years, I had good bread that didn’t make me sick.

Please come to Santa Cruz, CA! Many people here are gluten-free.

Hi! I heard you were attempting to sell your bread at Costco and I just wanted to ask if it’s at the Costco’s in MN yet? Thank you so much!

    • mmeek

Not in Minnesota yet. Fill out a comment card at the store and let them know you would like to see us there! Thanks for following.

Is Rudy’s no longer at any Costco? We were getting it regularly at Puyallup and it hasn’t been there for a couple of weeks. Thanks so much, we love your product.

We are no longer in the Northwest US region or the LA region. BUT keep filling out the comment cards at Costco requesting us, and maybe we’ll be back in your location! Costco listen’s to their customers! Thanks
