Our Gluten-Free Journey

Nearly 35 years ago, our founders started Rudi’s Organic Bakery in Boulder, Colorado based on the idea that there was a better way to make breads that are both nutritious and delicious. Since our humble beginnings, our passion has been baking better breads with ingredients you can pronounce and recognize – no artificial ingredients, chemicals or preservatives – delivering the perfect blend of whole and organic ingredients everyone in the family can enjoy and feel good about. At the heart of it all, we’re driven by our belief that living a healthy life leads to happiness.

For years, people have been asking us to bake gluten-free breads that are as delicious and wholesome as our organic breads. In fact, it was the one request we seemed to be getting over any other. So, two years ago, we started on our gluten-free journey.

After trying nearly every gluten-free bread on the market, and talking to over a hundred gluten-free consumers, we quickly discovered it was nearly impossible to find gluten-free bread that tasted good straight from the package and that was easy to make sandwiches with.  As bakers who enjoy creating high quality, delicious breads, we immediately understood the desire of our new friends with celiac disease or gluten intolerances to enjoy the simple pleasure of a piece of toast with breakfast or a sandwich for lunch.  It became our mission to make gluten-free bread with the taste, look and feel of regular bread.

For nearly two years we worked with gluten-free experts and consumers to perfect our formulas.  Many fabulous people provided invaluable insight and counsel for us, along with a lot of motivation to continue our quest.  And after a lot of trial and error – we tested more than 100 formulas – we finally landed on a recipe that we believe tastes, looks and feels like regular bread. Plus, sticking to our heritage, all of our gluten-free breads are made with only the highest quality, all-natural ingredients.

Rudi’s Gluten-Free Bakery is a natural extension of our commitment to baking on the bright side, creating healthy and wholesome breads the whole family can enjoy. Today, you can find our certified gluten-free breads coast to coast in three varieties, Gluten-Free Original, Gluten-Free Multigrain and Gluten-Free Cinnamon Raisin.
